1Password Editor's Review
'1Passwd' is a password manager that can successfully replace your Mac OS X built-in KeyChain.
In fact, the application integrates well with KeyChain and it includes many new useful features. This is also a very useful application because it integrates with various browsers and applications. It integrates well with Safari, DEVONagent, Firefox, Camino, and Flock.
1Passwd has the support for multiple identities, which is great because KeyChain can't remember more than one identity. The integration with other programs is very good and it can save you a lot of time and effort.
Besides identities and passwords, 1Passwd can provide form-filling support, which includes various types of forms. The program also has auto-saving. Therefore, if you complete a Web form, this application saves it.
1Passwd has a strong built-in password generator, which can make sure that you don't use weak passwords for your accounts. To protect the saved passwords and identities, including the automatically generated passwords, 1Passwd saves all of its data into an encrypted database. The first time it starts, the application asks for a master password, which is used when encrypting the database. It's highly recommended that you don't lose this password, because you won't be able to access your data any longer.
1Passwd can also export your data, so that transition to another system won't be an issue.
Pluses: It's a very good password manager. It can auto-save and auto-fill Web forms. It integrates with various browsers and applications. It stores data into an encrypted database, which is guarded by a master password. It can also automatically generate strong passwords for your accounts.
Drawbacks / flaws: The application's interface isn't very ergonomic when it comes to the Web form manager and the Trash. Some of the keyboard shortcuts just won't work, while their menu items are working. Perhaps a contextual menu for the Web form manager would be great. It also can't detect the difference between a search form and a login form if they are both on the same page.
In conclusion: The interface issues become minor inconveniences when you take into account the improvements that this application brings to the password management. The free version of this product can store just a limited number of forms, and just one identity. To unlock the full power of this application, you are required to purchase a license.
